Midfielder Highlight Video Guide for College Soccer Recruiting

Midfielders are the most versatile players on the field. Your highlight video needs to show that you can do everything.

What Coaches Evaluate in Midfielders

1. Passing range short, medium, and long range accuracy
2. Vision seeing passes before they are available
3. Ball retention under pressure
4. Defensive contribution tackling, intercepting, covering
5. Transition play winning the ball and immediately attacking
6. Set piece delivery if applicable

The Midfielder Challenge

Midfield highlights are the hardest to compile because your best moments are often subtle. A perfectly weighted through ball is not as visually striking as a goal, but it is equally impressive to coaches.

Clip Selection

• 3 to 4 key passes or assists
• 3 to 4 defensive actions (tackles, interceptions)
• 2 to 3 clips showing composure under pressure
• 2 to 3 long range passes or switches of play
• 1 to 2 goals (if you score)
• 1 to 2 transition plays (winning ball and immediately creating)

Structure

0:00 to 0:05 Intro card

0:05 to 1:15 Best attacking contributions (assists, key passes, goals)

1:15 to 2:15 Game management (receiving under pressure, switching play, controlling tempo)

2:15 to 3:00 Defensive actions and transitions

3:00 to 3:30 Physical attributes

3:30 to 3:45 Outro card

Pro Tips

• Show the full pass sequence, not just the moment of contact
• Include clips where you receive the ball with pressure behind you and turn
• Audio is valuable for midfielders. Coaches want to hear you directing play.
• If you play multiple midfield roles (8, 6, 10), show clips from each
