About Inkbound's College Soccer Program Data

MethodologySourcesUpdate scheduleHow to report an error

Inkbound's program pages cover 2,790 college soccer programs at 1,566 schools in 190 conferences, with 9,811 coaching staff records. Coach names and roles come from each school's official athletics staff directory and roster pages, program strength comes from Massey Ratings, and academic and cost figures come from the US Department of Education College Scorecard and the schools themselves. Pages are rebuilt on a 48 hour schedule and every page shows the date its own underlying rows last changed.

Sources

Coaching staff. Coach names and roles (head coach, assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, staff) come from each school's official athletics staff directory and roster pages. When a school lists no head coach for a program we show the staff we found and do not guess.

Program strength. Rank within division and gender comes from Massey Ratings. Programs without a Massey rank are shown as unrated rather than estimated.

Academics and cost. Undergraduate enrollment, acceptance rate, graduation rate, average net price, tuition, test score ranges and student to faculty ratio come from the US Department of Education College Scorecard and from figures the schools publish. A field that is missing in those sources is left blank on the page.

How the competitiveness tier is calculated

Each program's Massey rank is converted into a percentile within its own division and gender: rank divided by the number of ranked programs in that division and gender. The tier follows from the percentile.

Competitiveness tier definitions
TierShare of divisionDefinition
EliteTop 10 percentMassey rank percentile within division and gender of 0.10 or better
HighTop 35 percentPercentile above 0.10 and up to 0.35
MidTop 70 percentPercentile above 0.35 and up to 0.70
DevelopingRemaining programsPercentile above 0.70
UnratedNo rankThe program has no Massey rank for the current season

Because the percentile is taken within division and gender, a mid tier Division III program and a mid tier Division I program are not being compared to each other. The tier answers one question: how does this program rank against its direct competition.

Update schedule and the date on each page

Pages are rebuilt on a 48 hour schedule. The "Data updated" date on a program page is the most recent change across that program's own row, its school row and its coaching staff rows. It is never the build date, so a page whose data has not changed keeps showing the older date. Hub pages show the most recent change anywhere in the data set.

Why coach emails are behind a login

Coach email addresses are shown only to signed in Inkbound users. Two reasons: accuracy, because a logged in user gets the address we have verified most recently and any bounce feeds back into the data, and protection for coaches, because a public list of addresses is scraped and spammed within days, which hurts the coaches and every family trying to reach them honestly.

What is not published yet

Roster needs by graduation year (how many players a program is likely to add at each position for a given class) are not published today. They are on the roadmap. Program pages currently show the roster link so families can review the current roster directly.

How to report an error

Email support@inkbound.ai with the page URL and what is wrong. Coaches who want a listing corrected or removed can use the same address. Corrections to names and roles are checked against the school's official directory before they go live.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Inkbound get college soccer coach names?
Coach names and roles come from each school's official athletics staff directory and roster pages. We do not publish names from third party recruiting sites or social media.
Why can't I see coach email addresses on the program pages?
Coach email addresses are shown only to signed in Inkbound users. Keeping them behind a login lets us verify accuracy before they are used and protects coaches from bulk scraping and spam.
How often is the college soccer data updated?
Pages are rebuilt on a 48 hour schedule. The date shown on each page is the most recent change to that page's own program, school and staff rows, not the date the page was built.
What does the competitiveness tier on a program page mean?
The tier is the percentile of a program's Massey rank within its division and gender. Elite is the top 10 percent, high is the top 35 percent, mid is the top 70 percent, developing is the rest, and unrated means the program has no Massey rank.
Does Inkbound show roster needs by class year?
Not yet. Roster needs by graduation year are on the roadmap and are not published on program pages today.
How do I report an error in a program page?
Email support@inkbound.ai with the program page URL and what is wrong. Corrections to coach names and roles are checked against the school's official directory before they are published.
