Creating a Forward/Striker Highlight Video for College Soccer Recruiting

As a forward, your highlight video has one major advantage: goals are inherently exciting. But coaches look beyond the finish.

Beyond Goals: What Coaches Evaluate

Yes, include your best goals. But coaches also evaluate:

1. Movement off the ball runs that create space
2. Hold up play ability to receive with back to goal
3. Link up play combining with midfielders
4. Work rate pressing and defending from the front
5. Finishing variety left foot, right foot, headers, volleys
6. Decision making when to shoot vs when to pass

Clip Selection Strategy

Must include:

• 4 to 6 goals (variety of finishes)
• 2 to 3 assists or key passes
• 2 to 3 runs that created chances (even if they did not result in goals)
• 1 to 2 clips showing defensive work rate

Bonus clips:

• A goal under pressure (big game, late winner)
• A creative finish (chip, volley, individual effort)
• Playing against clearly strong defenders

Structure

0:00 to 0:05 Intro card

0:05 to 1:30 Best goals and assists. Start with your most impressive goal.

1:30 to 2:30 Intelligence and movement. Off ball runs, creating space, link up play.

2:30 to 3:00 Physical attributes and work rate.

3:00 to 3:15 Outro card

Pro Tips for Forwards

• Show the build up to goals, not just the finish. Coaches want to see how you created the opportunity.
• Include at least one header goal if possible.
• Show that you can score with both feet.
• If you have clips against high level opposition, prioritize those.
