The Complete Guide to College Soccer Showcase Tournaments

By Inkbound 7 min read

How to choose, prepare for, and perform at college soccer showcase tournaments. Which showcases matter most and how to get noticed by coaches.

Showcase tournaments are one of the most efficient ways to get in front of college coaches. One weekend can put you on the radar of dozens of programs.

What is a Showcase Tournament?

A showcase tournament is designed specifically for college recruiting. College coaches attend to watch and evaluate potential recruits. Unlike regular season tournaments, the focus is on individual player identification.

Top Showcase Tournaments

National Level:

  • ECNL National Events
  • MLS Next Flex and Cup
  • GA Showcases
  • Disney Showcase
  • Jefferson Cup
  • Surf Cup

Regional (but well attended):

  • Dallas Cup
  • CASL Showcase
  • Players Showcase (NJ)
  • San Diego Surf Showcase

How Coaches Use Showcases

Coaches create watching schedules before they arrive. They already know which players they want to see. This is why emailing coaches before the showcase is essential.

Before the Showcase

  1. Email every coach on your target list 2 to 3 weeks before. Include your team name, jersey number, field schedule, and highlight video link.
  2. Confirm which coaches will attend. Most showcases publish a coach attendance list.
  3. Get adequate rest. Do not show up exhausted from a club training session.
  4. Prepare mentally. You are performing in front of evaluators. Treat it like an audition.

During the Showcase

  • Play your game. Coaches do not want to see you try to do too much.
  • Communicate loudly. Your voice carries to the sideline where coaches stand.
  • Show consistent effort for the full match.
  • Do not argue with referees. Ever.
  • Be ready for your first touch. Coaches notice early.

After the Showcase

  • Send follow up emails within 48 hours to coaches who were present
  • Reference specific games or moments
  • Update your highlight video if you performed well
  • Thank the coaches for their time

How Many Showcases Should You Attend?

3 to 5 per year is the sweet spot. More than that leads to burnout and diminishing returns. Choose showcases strategically based on which coaches will attend.
