Best States for College Soccer Recruiting Exposure

Geography matters in recruiting. Some states offer significantly more exposure to college coaches than others. Here is the landscape.

Top States for Recruiting Exposure

California. The largest pool of talent in the country. Top ECNL and MLS Next clubs. Year round outdoor training. Surf Cup is one of the premier showcase events nationally.

Texas. Massive youth soccer infrastructure. Dallas Cup attracts hundreds of college coaches. Multiple ECNL and MLS Next clubs.

Florida. Year round training climate. Strong club scene from South Florida to Orlando to Tampa. Disney Showcase is a major recruiting event.

Virginia/Maryland/DC. The DMV area is a hotbed for college soccer. Jefferson Cup, CASL Showcase, and close proximity to dozens of college programs.

New Jersey/New York. Dense talent pool with top ECNL clubs. Players Showcase in NJ is heavily attended by coaches.

North Carolina. Strong high school and club soccer. Proximity to ACC and SEC schools.

What If You Live Outside These States?

You are not at a disadvantage if you are proactive:

1. Attend national showcase events. Travel to showcases in the states listed above.
2. Leverage video. Your highlight video reaches coaches everywhere regardless of your location.
3. Email aggressively. Coaches cannot travel to every state. Make it easy for them to find you.
4. Attend regional ID camps. Schools in your area host camps that draw less competition.

Regional Advantages

Being from a less saturated state can actually help. Coaches actively seek geographic diversity on their rosters. A strong player from Montana or Maine may stand out more than an equally talented player from California simply because there is less competition for attention.
