Bates College Women's Soccer Recruiting

Start with Joe Vari, the head coach. The women's staff is small, with one assistant coach alongside the head coach, so the head coach almost certainly reads recruiting mail personally. Copy the assistant so the whole staff sees the same message.

As general context, NCAA Division III schools do not award athletic scholarships. Aid at D3 schools comes through academic merit and need based packages, and D3 coaches often recruit later in the cycle than D1 programs. Bates College ranks in the upper part of its division, so the staff has options; explain in one line why this school and this roster fit you, not just that you want to play college soccer.

Bates College is a private small school on an urban campus with about 1,760 undergraduates. On a campus this size the women's soccer staff usually knows the admissions office well, so academic fit comes up early in the conversation. The acceptance rate is 13 percent, and the middle SAT range is 1420 to 1530, so include your grades and any test scores in the first message.
